Airport Parking: A Beginner’s Guide

You’ve booked your flights and hotel, you’ve researched your destination and you feel ready to go. But… aren’t you forgetting something? (And we don’t mean the sunscreen.) If you want the stress-free departure of well-prepared travelers, don’t leave it until you’ve reached your terminal to decide what you’re doing with your car.

Airport Parking

There are numerous options when it comes to reserving a spot for your vehicle at an airport parking lot and some companies, like Looking4Parking.com, offer great deals when you book in advance – even discounts up to 60%!

We’ve put together a guide on airport parking to help you make the right choice.

Valet parking

If you travel with kids, or go on business trips often, having a professional park your car for you at the airport could make things stress-free and save you a lot of time. For those unfamiliar with valet parking, this service allows you to drive to the parking lot and hand your keys over to a chauffeur who will take care of parking your car for you. From there, you just grab your stuff, jump on a free shuttle or walk to your terminal and… you’re ready for take-off. (Yes, it’s really that easy!)

All you have to do when you come back is to call the parking lot so they can have your car waiting for you when you leave the terminal.

But… isn’t valet parking for rich people?

Valet parking services have changed a lot through the years, becoming more affordable over time. In some cases, valet parking isn’t more expensive than other airport parking options, so all you have to do is research in advance and pick the right offer for you.

Self-park

This is probably the most common type of airport parking and a great option for budget-conscious travelers. If you opt for a space at a self-parking lot, you will drive up to your reserved spot, park your car and keep your keys. In most cases, these lots – which can be covered or uncovered – are located only a short distance away from the airport so, after you’ve left your car, you will probably have to catch a free, quick shuttle to your terminal.

When you come back, all you have to do is board the shuttle and get to your car in a few minutes.

Garage parking

Airports offer parking garages on their site. These are usually the parking lots closest to the terminals, which means you can walk straight to the check-in desk after parking your car. In some airports, a covered bridge connects the parking garage to the terminal, meaning you are shielded from bad weather conditions. Parking on the airport site doesn’t mean you have to park your car yourself – you can usually choose between a self-park and a valet service.

On your way back, simply pick up your car or call your valet.

Why should I book in advance?

Pre-booking is the only way you can be 100% sure that, on the day of your flight, a spot will be waiting for you at the airport – imagine getting there without a reservation only to be told: “Sorry, we’re full.”

Parking at the airport is known to be expensive, but it doesn’t have to be this way. You can reserve a secure space for cheap by simply making your booking in advance. All you have to do is to research the available parking options ahead of time and find the best deal for you.
